On the eve of this season’s opener, Wythenshawe Town are thrilled to announce the arrival of Dom
Smalley into the fold.
The versatile full back was a target for many clubs in higher divisions but fortunately he chose to don
the famous blue jersey of Wythenshawe Town, much to the delight of manager, James Kinsey.
“Dom starting pre-season with us to keep himself ticking. He had several offers from teams at a
higher level. He eventually decided to sign for us, and we are obviously delighted with that.
“Naturally he plays as a right back but he could easily come and play in numerous positions for us”,
Smalley will bring new life to the right back position and the gaffer is eager to integrate the defender
into this season's curtain-raiser.
“We’ve already seen what he brings to the group and he will go straight into Saturday’s squad against
Sandbach. We have got big aims this year and adding Dom will help us achieve them,” Kinsey added.
The new man is a proven winner as he helped Ashton United gain promotion to the Conference
North in the 2017/18 season. And, that winning mentality is already beginning to shine through.
Smalley stated, “My aspirations are of course to win the league. Anything less is going to be
disappointing. We want to win this league to make a big statement for next year as well.
“I don’t have any personal targets, just to play attractive football. That’s what the fans want to see
and to bring good memories to the club.
Smalley added, “Pre-season has been tough. Not physically but mentally in terms of which club is
going to be best for me and my family. I’ve not played a lot of minutes, just 105 in fact. But I’ve kept
on top of my fitness and have had a good handful of sessions. I can’t wait to get started on Saturday”
The nifty full back has vast experience at a high level; he spent the majority of last season at Chester
FC but finished the season on loan at Hyde United. He also had spells at Salford City and at Ramsbottom United.
The Wythy Town faithful can’t wait to see Smalley in action this Saturday against Sandbach United at
Ericstan Park and his appearance is sure to decorate the terraces with smiles.
