Wythenshawe Town came away from Booth Street empty handed as they lost 3-0 to make it successive back to back defeats on the road.
The hosts were much the better side in the first forty-five minutes putting the Wythenshawe defence under pressure from the outset. The game’s first chance came on four minutes when Aaron Cook knocked the ball down for Brian Barton on the edge of the area but his effort went wide of the upright.
Just six minutes later the hosts forced Town goal keeper Ben Daniels into a fine acrobatic save when Hopwood drove a shot from the edge of the area but Daniels was able to tip the ball over the top of the upright.
On 18 minutes Congleton broke the deadlock when Barton beat the offside trap and fired beyond Daniels from close range and he could have doubled his tally for the evening just moments later when a longball forward from goalkeeper Jack Goode found him in open space but his chipped effort went over the top of the crossbar.
The hosts did double their lead on 25 minutes when a corner from the left was met by the unmarked Paul Spruce and he hit home from six yards out. Town’s only really chance of note in the first half was when a free kick from Ash McGrath found captain Joe Yarwood and his effort across goal was met by Ed Walker but he could only turn the ball in the Congleton goalkeepers arms.

After the interval Wythenshawe came out fighting and were denied only by a goal-line clearance when a long ball forward from Ben Shawcross should have been cleared by Goode in the Congleton goal, but striker Ed Walker charged down his clearance and then saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line.
Town continued to pressure Congleton and midfielder James Taylor had the games next chance when he beat two players but his effort from just outside the penalty area went over the crossbar.
Wythenshawe made all three substitutes going in search of a way back into the game, but on 78 minutes Barton wrapped up the points for the hosts as he hit Wythenshawe on the break and beat defender Kieran Halliwell before calmly slotting beyond the oncoming Ben Daniels.
