FA void season: Club Statement

season void

Today, the FA have come to the decision to void the 2019/20 season and expunge all results for clubs below the National League North and South.

We are of course all disappointed with the final verdict on this matter as we, along with countless other clubs across the country, have worked tirelessly to attain a promotion place but it is one that we must come to accept.

It leaves a sour taste after what has been a quite remarkable season for Town, with a fantastic run in our inaugural FA Vase appearance, reaching the semi-final of the Playermatch.com cup and of course having a likely promotion place considering our incredible run of form.

Our commiserations must be sent out to Vauxhall Motors who had already secured promotion with seven games to spare. They had been the driving force all season and now their exertions count for very little which is nothing short of heart-breaking.

Emotions are inevitably running high at times like this but we can only accept the decision that has been made and reflect on the wonderful progress that both the squad and the club have made as a whole over the last 12 months.

We are no strangers to adversity and when we are cleared to resume play, we will make sure that this ‘season’ has not been in vain, and we will come back stronger and hungrier than ever.

Town boss James Kinsey has had his say on the matter:

“I can’t say I’m surprised. There’s been so many mixed opinions on this it seemed the hand would always be forced. It is the completely wrong decision which has been forced by step 3 & 4 clubs due to player contracts.

“People don’t see the hard work that goes in to it behind the scenes. The lads have worked tirelessly. My coaching staff have sacrificed a lot. Volunteers have given up countless hours. Supporters have given up their own money to push us towards promotion, which we were more than on track with. To have it pulled away from you is sickening for everybody!

“I’ll have a sit down with the chairman when the world gets back on its feet. We will see where we go from there. I think one thing that’s for certain is that it will just make people at the club hungrier. There was already an unbelievable determination and I think that will grow on the back of this.

“The season has been completely pointless apart from the Vase run. A lot of time has been wasted. It’s unreal really. But, we’ve shown before we just brush things off. We will go again when The FA decide they want us to do so.

“But, away from football, people are dying. I hope everybody keeps safe and I’ll look forward to the madness starting again”
