Jan Palinkas signs for Town

Wythenshawe Town are delighted to have secured their first signing of the transfer window in the form of 18-year-old utility defender, Jan Palinkas.

The Czech Republican arrives at Ericstan Park with a strong pedigree, having played seven times for FC United of Manchester’s first team in the National League North last season, after carving a pathway from the academy ranks.

The young starlet is aiming to bolster the Town backline and his connections with new first team coach, Tom Conroy may well have been a factor in swaying his decision to join.

“I decided to join Wythenshawe because they are up there with the top teams in the league. I played for Tom Conroy at FC United who is a top coach. When he came here he asked me to come down and after meeting and training with the lads I feel like it’s the right place for me to develop my football further.”

Palinkas completed his first set of pre-season sessions with his new teammates and is encouraged by the commitment shown by the entire team.

“The squad have started well in pre-season. It’s tough in these hot conditions but everyone has been putting the graft in, all the players and management team have made me feel welcome straight away and I already feel like part of the squad.”

Manager James Kinsey also revealed the influence that Conroy had upon his decision to make the swoop for the youngster from the sixth tier of English football.

“When we had a meeting to plan pre-season Tom mentioned Jan was available. He had played several times for FC United in the first team last season after breaking through from the academy there. He is comfortable on the ball and has unbelievable potential.”

Kinsey also insists on the importance of surrounding Palinkas with experience during this delicate phase of his career, in order for him to develop and mould his style of play to fit into Town’s system.

“It’s all about learning for him now. With the likes of Nia Bayunu sticking around he is in a good place to learn from players who have done well in the game.”

Undoubtedly, Palinkas will have received copious interest from other parties for his clear potential alone but Kinsey is adamant about the exciting prospects that are brewing at Town.

“The ambition we’ve got is key. We’ve built a good side and people want to be part of it. The potential for this club is unbelievable and it’s good that the lads are buying into it.”
