Leather signs contract with Town

Ashley Leather has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 20-year old returned to Wythenshawe Town in January after playing the first half of the season for West Didsbury.

Since his return mid-season, the tricky winger has been heavily involved in an abundance of goals for Town, terrorising defences on the right-flank with his electrifying pace and relentless source of energy.

The wide man has amassed an impressive haul of four Man of the Match awards in 11 appearances which is a very happy return for the boyhood Wythenshawe lad.

As Leather has had a spell with Town previously in his still embryonic career, he knows exactly what it means to play at Ericstan Park.

“I am delighted to have signed for the club for another year. The management team will be great for my development and I’m sure it will be a great year for the club”

Understandably, Leather has gathered a number of interested parties from higher divisions which he is aware of but “the challenge of helping my local club go for promotion is more of an attraction at this moment in time.”

Manager James Kinsey has kept a watchful eye over Leather in his brief tenure with the club and knows just how valuable a player he is to the team’s functionality.

“Since the season has finished, Ash has had a lot of interest from clubs at a higher level. He was superb last season, both for West Didsbury and Chorlton before returning to us.”

“We sat down with him last week and he feels that staying with us is the best option for his own development.

“He’s grown up in Wythenshawe so he has a lot of close ties here. I know he matches our ambition which is to push for promotion next season. He will be instrumental in trying to achieve that.”

A positive start to what could be a very productive pre-season for the players and management team alike, preparing to push for a promotion place come the beginning of the fixture list.

An exciting prospect lies in wake for Town next season and sealing the deal with Leather is the perfect way to kick it all off.
