Wythenshawe Town are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Morgan Piper on a Work Experience Loan from Rochdale AFC.
Piper has come through the Academy system at Rochdale, having joined the club aged 11, and has continued his development by signing a two-year scholarship in the summer. The young shot stopper was crucial to Dale’s progression in the FA Youth Cup, playing all three matches and keeping clean sheets in the first two rounds against Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons.
The first year scholar is no stranger to Wythenshawe, living just round the corner from Ericstan Park, and Piper’s first loan move will see him make the switch to Town until January 5th with the option to extend. After Bruno Miguel Da Silva re-joined the club last week as a goalkeeper coach, this is the latest step taken by the Town management to strengthen the last line of defence as the team prepare for the congested Christmas period.
“I’ve been talking to Richard Ashcroft and Ryan Ball for a couple of months now about bringing Morgan in” commented Manager James Kinsey. “Whilst he is only young, I’m a big believer that if you are good enough then you are old enough.”
“We are hoping to build a positive relationship with Rochdale moving forward and I appreciate the support they’ve given us in getting this over the line.”
Town currently sit second in the Hallmark Security League First Division South, and Piper will be keen to help his local club continue to the push for promotion.
Next up in the league for Wythenshawe Town is a home fixture against FC Oswestry Town this Saturday (15th December) at Ericstan Park. Kick-Off will be at 3pm, with entry costing £5 for Adults, £3 for Concessions and FREE for Under 12s.
