Wythenshawe Town started 2018 in fine style as they picked up all 3 points on the road against Rylands FC.
The hosts started the game the better team and put Wythenshawe under early pressure with Ben Daniels forced into a couple of saves from close range. Despite being under the cosh Wythenshawe took the lead on 10 minutes when Godfred Amankwaa was found unmarked in the area by Rory Robinson and the striker turned and hit beyond Connor Yarwood in the Rylands goal.
After the goal, Wythenshawe grew into the game but it was the hosts who had the games next best opportunity when a throw-in was taken quickly to captain Kris Bell and his effort from 30 yards went just over Ben Daniels crossbar.
Just after the half-hour mark, the visitors had a glorious opportunity to double their lead when Amankwaa beat his marker on the left and played a ball across goal which beat Connor Yarwood but nobody could get on the end of it to convert.
Halftime: Rylands FC 0-1 Wythenshawe Town
The second half started the same as the first, with Rylands applying the early pressure and they could have drawn level had it not been for Ryan McCue. After a ball was played into the area it fell to Kris Bell 6 yards out but from nowhere McCue through himself in front of the shot to block it and then from the rebound Ben Daniels pulled off a terrific save to ensure Wythenshawe kept the lead.
Just minutes later the hosts had another terrific chance to draw level when Bell stood over a free kick to the left of the penalty area, but he saw his curling effort rebound off the crossbar.
As the half went on Wythenshawe began to grow in confidence and debutant Zac Clarke had a couple of terrific opportunities to double the lead. The first when he beat the offside trap and beat the oncoming Connor Yarwood to the ball, but his effort from just outside the area went inches wide of the upright, before just eight minutes later he was picked out by Isaac Graham but he saw his lobbed effort from range go just over Yarwood’s goal.
After this, the hosts pushed for the equaliser but couldn’t find a way beyond Ben Daniels and Wythenshawe held on to claim all 3 points.
