Sands United have a new home! Sands United have a new home!

Sands United FC to play from Wythenshawe Town in 2021/22 season

Local charity club Sands United Stockport FC will play from Ericstan Park in the 2021/22 season. Our back pitch will be used by the side alongside our junior sides in a partnership which we was keen to get involved in.

Sands United Stockport FC is a football team who play in the East Cheshire Sunday League, fielding players who have suffered, or been affected, by the loss of a baby through Miscarriage, Stillbirth or Neonatal death. The team was set up to help Men greive with their loss as speaking in a group isn't always the best way, where as football offers the chance to speak freely whilst taking part in the sport we all love.

The side play with their Babies names on their chest and always strive to make them proud. The Club was set up by Founder Joel Kelly in November 2018 and has gone from strength to strength. It has now helped over fifty men in the local area.

Sands United FC chairman, Joel Kelly, is excited by the new home.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be associated with Wythenshawe Town Football Club. Somewhere where we can not only play football, but somewhere we can socialise afterwards with our families and friends."

Having played on Local Authority pitches in recent times, there has been a search for a place to call home for quite a while.

"We have been actively looking for a home for two years now. We have spent the last two seasons on a council pitch without any facilities or a clubhouse. What we have now is amazing. The benefits of the facilities here will be massive for us as a club and provide a platform for what we want to achieve from matchdays. Not only playing football in honour of our children, but afterwards we can go back to the clubhouse for a drink and a chat and spend time with one another."

It is not only Sands United FC who are delighted by the new partnership. Our Chairman, Chris Eaton, has spoke of his enthusiasm to have the local charity club based from Ericstan Park.

"It is no secret that we are actively looking to work with the local community and provide opportunities for all. We love what the people at Sands United do and we are proud to have them playing from our facilities. We will look to work with them moving forwards and help them where we can in whatever they try and achieve. We welcome everybody associated with them."
