Spenno gives his verdict on Vauxhall
A fixture to whet the appetite of any North West Counties follower as the league leaders, Vauxhall Motors come knocking at the blue gates of Ericstan.
Last weekend’s 90th minute heartache against Oswestry is likely to have left some battle-scars but Scott Spencer has been in defiant mood and is adamant that Town’s soul focus is on Saturday.
“When we left the dressing room we drew a line under it. It was a tough way to lose but it happens in football. Time to bounce back this weekend.”
It was the first defeat since we fell short away to Barnton of the 10th of August, seemingly a lifetime ago given the new lease of life Town have been invigorated with.
But Spencer is honest in his account of our exertions in Shropshire and is transparent as to what went wrong.
“We gave away a poor goal in the first five minutes so had to recover from that. We know how to start a game and we didn’t do it.”
He continued, “The gaffer and Dan can’t be any clearer it’s our job to take it into the pitch”
The last time these two outfits went toe-to-toe was in an agonising 1-1 draw in Ellesmere Port as Matty Roberts netted the most unfortunate of own goals for the hosts, to steal a point with seconds remaining.
Despite their near-perfect track record this campaign as well as their early poll position, Spencer isn’t fazed by the points gap nor is he convinced that Town’s season hinges on this one encounter.
“I don’t really think about it too much, it’s just another game. We need to start properly and win three points.
“I don’t think you know what games define seasons this early. Later in the year maybe but a lot of the time you look back and say ‘yeah that win turned the season round’”
Town have all the incentive going into this one, hoping that Oswestry was merely a bump in the road and also have the opportunity to knock the current pace makers off their stride.
