New Mills 1-3 Wythenshawe Town
Goal involvements from Jack Timmons, Brad Byrne and Darius Palma helped Town open their league campaign with a 3-1 victory over New Mills.
It took just 5 minutes for Wythenshawe to take the lead after Timmons delivered a corner which resulted in a New Mills own goal.
However the home side then got one back after 63 minutes, as Michael Connor intercepted a Dom Smalley backwards pass to then take it around Callum Jakovlevs and place it into an open net.
But Town reacted perfectly and nullified New Mills’ equaliser almost instantly.
As just 3 minutes later, Timmons’ pinpoint free-kick met Byrne at the front post who then headed it in from close range.
In which Town deserved this, they were the much better side and constantly posed a threat by creating many chances.
Timmons, Jordan Burton and Matty Bryan all came close to scoring, yet this hard work was in danger of being wasted as New Mills had a penalty with just 13 minutes to go.
But to Town’s delight, Benito Lowe blasted it over the bar to keep Wythenshawe 2-1 ahead and they weren’t done there.
On the 87th minute, debutant Darius Palma collected the ball on the edge of the box and brilliantly beat Sam Fitzgerald before slotting it pass the keeper to cap off a great solo goal.
It was a fantastic way to start the season for Town and on another day, they could have scored a lot more than 3 goals.
Wythenshawe were relentless which sets them in good stead for this season, as Town look like strong promotion favourites with Abbey Hey up next.
