Town Vs Consett Preview Town Vs Consett Preview

We look forward to Saturday's away fixture against Consett in the fourth round of the FA Vase!

The FA Vase has provided the Wythenshawe Town players, staff and fans great memories so far this season. The performance levels in this competition, in particular, have been impeccable and the team has shown a lot of grit and determination. They have battled fiercely against every opponent with the clear intention of reaching the final.

Town have been very threatening going forward all season with the menacing attacking prowess that they obviously possess. Because of the attacking quality that Town have shown, it has been easy to overlook the midfield players, who have worked tirelessly hard in order to win the ball back in the right areas of the pitch, and start the attack from these ball winning positions.

Connor Brotherton has been a real work horse for Town this season in the middle of the park. During a recent catch up, he made it clear that he believes that Town are in a great position leading up to this important game and that they are determined to come out of it with a victory.

“The performances in the FA Vase have been good, 6 goals and 2 clean sheets in the last two games is good form to take into a tough game and yes of course we are all ready for it.  We are all in good spirits after the win against Macclesfield and now we have a good away trip to enjoy and hopefully get a win.”

Town are currently sitting third in the North West Counties Premier Division and go into the fourth round of the FA Vase following three consecutive wins. After scoring seven goals in these three games, confidence is high and a successful FA Vase run would be the icing on the cake for Town’s impressive season.

According to Brotherton, the fans support has been a key factor in the success of the team stating, “To get this far in the Vase is good for any club that is in it, for me it’s been good to see the fans coming to the games, we seem to get better crowds on Vase matchdays and they have been class recently.”

From the talented individuals who were at the club at the start of the season, to those who have joined mid way through the campaign, the performance levels have shown that Wythenshawe Town have every chance of competing for the silverware which awaits the winning side. However, Brotherton makes it clear that it’s important that Town stay grounded and don’t get ahead of themselves. Instead, it is crucial for the club to focus on each round of the competition if they want to make it to they later stages of the cup.

“We’ve got to take it a game at a time and we start on Saturday against Consett, we definitely owe them a game after knocking us out a couple of years ago and if we get through Saturday, we have as good a chance as anybody to go all the way.”
