Town travel away to Avro this Saturday in what could turn out to be a huge game for both sides.
Town take on Avro FC away this Saturday afternoon, as we visit our former Manchester League rivals.
Wythenshawe Town are currently in a great position in the league. With the club sat in third place with three games in hand over second, who are just eight points ahead. However, it is important that Town focus on this weekends fixture in order to maintain their current league position, as they are under threat of being overtaken by the North Manchester opponents who are having a great season themselves.
In a recent catch up with Wythenshawe Town winger Darius Palma, he explains Town’s current mentality before the weekends encounter and he states that Town are raring to go for the away game.
“We’re definitely prepared for Saturdays game. Because the game against Northwich Victoria was called off on Saturday, the lads can’t wait to get back out on the pitch together. There’s a real buzz around the squad at the moment and everyone is enjoying being around each other. I’m personally looking forward to the game, it’s a chance for me to get back to my best and help the team to come out with a positive result.”
Palma has showed his class and quality on either wing since he rejoined the club from Trafford FC earlier this season. The fans are excited every time he’s on the ball and feel as though something is about to happen when he faces up to the opposition. Having said this, it is clear that Palma is his own biggest critic as he describes how he thinks he has played this season.
“There’s a few of my individual performances that I’m happy with, I have had a drop in form recently but it happens, the team and management have stuck by me. I can’t wait to be back at my best to help the squad get to where we want and deserve to be.”
Town’s recent form has been impressive to say the least. They are unbeaten since 18th December and have only conceded five goals since then in all competitions. Palma is thrilled with the teams performances and believes that the consistency to Town’s season has been the key to their success.
“The performances that the team have put in throughout the season have been class in my eyes. We have been very consistent recently, we just need to continue that momentum. We have a massive opportunity to finish the season strong and have had an unbelievable run in the Vase with a huge opportunity to get into the final at Wembley, so there are plenty of positives going forward.”
Whilst Town have had a great season already, the side must continue their incredible run of form in order to achieve this seasons targets. With more and more fans attending games home and away, Town have shown that through hard work and togetherness as a group, anything can be achievable.
“Promotion is a potential, there's no denying that, but we are just focused on the next game and seeing what happens. Also it is important to not worry about anyone else and come the end of the season what will be will be.”
We hope to see as many of you as possible at The Vestacare stadium this Saturday.
