Wythenshawe Town vs Skelmersdale match preview

Wythenshawe host 2nd place Skelmersdale at Ericstan park on Saturday, as both sides attempt to seize an advantage in the race for the play off spot in the Northwest Counties Premier division.

This weekend, Town take on Skelmersdale in what is already a vital game for both sets of players, with the result already having potential ramifications on which division both sides will be playing in next season. With Wythenshawe 6 points behind Skelmersdale, having played 2 games more, it is therefore vital Town gain maximum points in Saturday’s crunch fixture to keep their promotion dream alive.

Wythenshawe are currently 7 games unbeaten heading into this weekend’s fixture, having won 6 of them. However, the fans and players alike will be disappointed maximum points were not obtained during this run, following the side’s disappointing draw at Prestwich, to which many felt put an end to their promotion bid.

In a recent interview with Daniel Whiteside, our assistant manager reinforced the positivity in and around the club at the moment as well the secrets behind the recent run.

“January has been a really positive month for us. We have found some real consistency in our performances. The lads have really stuck together, demands of each other are extremely high and we have been on a great run”

With the team having scored 4 or more in 3 of the last 4 league games, and rather impressively netting 7 at home to Runcorn last weekend, James also provided us some insight into recent training sessions that has manufactured one of the most feared front lines in the division.

“The lads have been great and really bought into everything we have asked of them on the training pitch. sessions are high tempo and very competitive, and this intensity is taken into matchdays. The unity within the whole squad is fantastic, each and every one of them knows their importance and they will run through brick walls for each other and the staff”

In the reverse fixture, Town left the JMO sports park stadium with a point having played out an extremely competitive game of football, that went down to the last kick of the ball. However, Wythenshawe will certainly be looking to rewrite the narrative and get the better of this weekend’s opponents. It will certainly be a challenge to which Dan feels the players are well prepared for.

“They have had a fantastic season and are rightly in a great position. It was equal when we went to their place. We have a much more settled and consistent squad now; we will prepare this week like any other. We will be ready to go Saturday and hopefully give our fans something to shout about”

The recent form of the side has certainly instilled belief into the players, which has reflected on the fans, whose support both home and away this season have helped the team go from strength to strength. We hope a similar turnout to recent weeks will be there for our clash at home to Skelmersdale this Saturday at 3pm.
